Pin Down Your Body

Overall very good. The chorus is amazing but those two dream stanzas that come before aren’t too great, I think. In those stanzas, the word “dream” is repeated a lot, and though I’m sure it would sound better without being repeated so much, I wanted to stay somewhat faithful. Also, I wish I knew what the unwritten English lines were. I can only make out “I want to try to be myself.”

yonaka ni me ga sameta toki hitori yume no naka ni ita
itsu ka yume mita yume to wa nitemo ni tsukanai yume datta

When I woke up in the middle of the night, I was all alone in a dream
It was a dream quite unlike the dream I once dreamt

yure ugoku hi ga terashi dashita obieta iro wa
shizuka ni nibui hikari o tataeta mama

The frightened colour that the flickering flame shone on
remained quietly filled with a dim light

donna koboba de omoi de moroi kokoro o tsunagi tometara
kore ijou kizutsukazu ni jouzu ni waraeta darou
hai tsukubatte iki mo dekinai mama tada yukkuri to
ushinau kurai nara mou mayou karada goto sashi tomete

What words and feelings could I have held my brittle heart together with
so that I could have laughed easily without getting hurt any more
If I must grovel while I can’t even breathe, and slowly lose everything,
then just stab me along with my wandering body now

All alone in a dream where a quiet day ended, it was too late to run away
It was a dream where it felt like I couldn’t go back to the dream I once dreamt

The frightened colour blurred by the rain pouring in
still faintly had a dim light in it

donna kibou mo inori mo ima wa kokoro o tada kowasu kara
nani mo kamo kizutsukezu ni jouzu ni waraenai yo
buzama ni warau sukui you no nai mama tada jikkuri to
kurushimu kurai nara mou mayou karada goto sashi tomete

Any hopes or prayers now will just break my heart
so I can’t laugh easily without hurting everything
I laugh miserably, as I have no salvation
If I must suffer slowly, just stab me along with my wandering body now

yume no mata yume no saki e madoromu yasashii oto ni nosete
kidzukenai mama kanashii mirai e

To the dream beyond the dream… Riding a slumbering, peaceful sound
Unaware that I’m heading towards a future with a tragic ending…

dakedo…

With that said…

donna koboba de omoi de moroi kokoro o tsunagi tometara
kore ijou kizutsukazu ni jouzu ni waraeta darou
hai tsukubatte iki mo dekinai mama tada yukkuri to
ushinau kurai nara mou mayou karada goto sashi tomete

What words and feelings could I have held my brittle heart together with
so that I could have laughed easily without getting hurt any more
If I must grovel while I can’t even breathe, and slowly lose everything,
then just stab me along with my wandering body now

  1. Hello and nice to meet you.
I’m Rinki Sorami, who is a Japanese learning English.
Thank you for your translation! It’s fun and helpful for my English at the same time to read lyrics translations.
I wrote below what I find; if you think they are reasonable, you could take them into account.

    —-
    > いつか夢見た夢とは 似ても似つかない夢だった
    > It was like a dream I once dreamt before, yet also unlike that dream

「似ても似つかない」 usually means “quite unlike” as the dictionary below says.
We could translate the sentence to “It was a dream quite different from the dream I once dreamt.”

: 主な英訳 quite unlike; not bearing the slightest resemblance

    —-
    > いつか夢見た夢には 戻れないような夢だった
    > In the dream I once dreamt was a dream where it felt like I couldn’t go back

I think 「には」 here will be interpreted as a part of the phrase「には戻れない」, which seems a diffrent interpretation from you.
I would translate it to “It was a dream where it felt like I couldn’t go back to the dream I once dreamt.”.
The basic meaning would be the same to the “いつか夢見た夢とは 似ても似つかない夢だった”.

    • Howdy, and thanks for the comment! Those suggestions make it sound a lot better. I never would have guessed 似ても似つかない would mean “quite unlike.”
