anata ni wa wakaru hazu mo nai
sono omoi ni wa fushigi na chikara ga hisonde
sono me ni wa mieru koto wa nai
anata o ugokasu mienai mahou no kotoba de
I wouldn’t expect you to understand A mysterious power lurks within your feelings Never to be seen by your eyes I’ll rouse you with words of invisible magic
watashi shika wakaru hazu ga nai
subete no genri sore ni sakaraeru chikara wa
sono negai kanaerareru kara
anata wa watashi ni chikadzuku mahou no chikara de
I don’t expect anyone other than me to understand The power to be able to defy the principles of everything It can grant all your wishes after all, so you’ll be drawn to me by the power of magic
nani mo nai kono saki no michi nani mo nai ushiro o mitemo
mou ichido furi kaeru nara kono saki wa mienaku naru no
ayundeta ima made no michi nani mo nai ashiato sae mo
nokosareta hitotsu no omoi sore dake ga saigo no kibou ne
Completely empty, the road after this, completely empty, even if I look behind If I look back one more time, I’ll become unable to see ahead The road up to now that I had walked, completely empty, even the footprints too The one feeling left behind, that and only that is my final hope
wakaranai mama ayundemo wakaranai mama kawarazu ni
omoide o furi kaeru nara omoide ni sode o hikarete
ayundeta mono sae subete muda ni naru sonna kono toki
nokosareta watashi ga hitori nokosareta hitotsu no omoi mo
Even if I walk as I understand nothing, I’ll still understand nothing without a change If I look back on memories, I’ll be drawn by my sleeve by those memories Even those that were walking, everything, it all comes to nothing, as such are these times Left behind, I’m all alone, as well as my one left behind feeling
Requested by my friend Lori, lyrics were found transcripted on a website. I somewhat question the structure of that last stanza there, but what can you do?
Notes: 「早起きにして六文の得」 is based on a proverb, 「早起きは三文の徳」, that essentially translates to “early bird catches the worm,” literally translating into “Waking up early is a benefit for those with little cash.” In this version though, instead of 三文, it’s 六文, which is the fare to cross the river Sanzu.
「丑の刻参り」, or “the two o’clock curse” as I named it, refers to the curse where you drive a nail through a doll into a sacred tree of a shrine for seven nights in a row between 1-3am to kill the person it represents. Imagine a voodoo doll. In the song here though, it only takes one night.

Ah, what did we end up going against? Despite the fact that we surely should’ve been able to live on good terms. Ah, at least, if you were here for me, I might’ve been able to believe the last honest ones, says the idiots! Sink in your nonsense! If honest people just look like fools, if that’s the way of that world. Ah! As for me, I’ll surely be the final victor! Chew on that truth and leave paradise behind now. With each time I carved into a tombstone, I snigger at the afterglow of victory filling my chest.
